The presence chose Nelly before she entered the Bureau and remained latent while the institution quietly monitored her through a clerical scholarship. Its first undeniable manifestation followed Nelly opening a sealed inventory drawer at the junior academy. Seven pages were removed from the incident report by Senior Inspector Marie Brass; the missing material concerns more than what observers recorded about Nelly.
The awakened trait usually remains compressed inside Nelly’s ordinary shadow. Under threat it expands into a colossal wolf-form with smoke-black fur, antler-like horns and eyes like openings cut into moonlight. Its Directive is protective: it answers threats to the person who answers a plea and keeps the promise that follows. It is not the ancient wolf-god from which it came, and it does not always distinguish protection from escalation.
During Case File 001, the presence recognized Dorian Vane before Nelly did. Its resonance with Caro’s guardian indicates that the two are distinct traits from the same ancient source—kin, not fragments of one mind. Dorian recognized that provenance in return. Marie’s missing pages may make the larger chain legible, which is precisely why access remains sealed.
